MT|SHRM Mentor Program

About the Mentor Program

The Mentor Program was founded in 2004 by Chapter leaders who had the goal of fostering collaboration between students and HR leaders. The founders identified the need and benefit of integrating students into the workplace in order to support students during their transition upon graduating and entering the workplace. The Mentor Program objective is to provide opportunities for MT|SHRM Professional Members to prepare and strengthen MT|SHRM Student Members to become the next generation of successful HR professionals, through opportunities to learn from their mentors’ personal experiences in Human Resources.

The Mentor Program partners a MT|SHRM Student Chapter Member from a local university with a MT|SHRM Professional Member. The professional members will provide mentorship to the student members by preparing and strengthening them to become the next successful leaders in our field. The program will begin in early October and continue through April. Attendance to one group event, the “Pairing Evening,” will be in early fall. This year we are considering a virtual event, and we will keep everyone posted as the event draws closer. The “Pairing Evening” is when you will meet your mentor/student and network with other program participants. All other meetings take place monthly at the mentor and student’s convenience. We are encouraging you to be creative with all other meetings while considering social distancing recommendations. Try lunch, dinner, coffee, MT|SHRM meetings, MTSU breakfast meeting, golf, or virtual meetings. Job shadowing opportunities for the mentees are always great! With this program, you gain long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships. Finally, the MT|SHRM Mentor Program allows you to pass knowledge and experience on to the next generation of professionals.

Volunteers Needed!

Give future HR Managers exposure to Human Resources in the business world, and provide direction to students studying Human Resources. Help to build an accurate picture of what to expect when the students graduate and enter the work force. What’s more, you can build the pipeline of talent for your HR team. Finally, you’ll enjoy the contagious energy and enthusiasm of university students. With past success, we expect a greater demand for mentors for the 2020 – 2021 year. If you are unable to participate this year, please consider encouraging a colleague or two to participate.

Consider giving back to the HR profession by helping the next generation of HR leaders prepare to enter the workforce through the MT|SHRM Mentor Program.
