Join us for this panel discussion, which will talk about diversity, in general, but also valuing diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in our collective communities (which ranges from leadership to frontline staff, young adults to senior citizens, and varying religions, cultures, ethnicities, abilities and LGBTQ+ communities). The panel represents a diverse group of working professionals who have agreed to share their stories and insights about these topics against the backdrop of recent headlines.

Joy Johnson-Carruthers, SHRM-SCP, is a Master Trainer, Workforce Development Leader and diversity equity and inclusion advocate with over twenty years of experience developing high performing teams across the United States and abroad. Most recently named Diversity and Inclusion Professional of the Year, Joy is a MTSHRM board member and serves as the D&I Director. Joy is a Learning & Development leader with HCA Healthcare/ HealthTrust and holds a Master of Cultural Studies from UCLA. Joy lives in Nashville with her husband and enjoys tennis and shopping.
Bethy Butler is the Director of Community Engagement at the Faith and Culture Center in Nashville, Tennessee. FCC’s mission is to cultivate and foster relationships across lines that typically divide us: faith, race, culture, and ethnicity. Bethy oversees FCC’s A Seat at the Table program, which works to build communities by helping people get to know their Muslim neighbors. Outside of FCC, Bethy teaches writing and rhetoric at Lipscomb University and serves as President of the Board for Emmaus House Haiti.
Danai Chinoda is the Executive Director of Tennessee Personal Assistance, Inc (TPA). TPA is an organization that provides health services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in middle Tennessee. Danai holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trevecca Nazarene University and is currently pursuing a Master of Organizational Leadership degree from the same university. He is a licensed minister and devoted preacher. His ultimate goal is to be a servant leader in any professional, personal, or ministry setting. He is also a devoted husband and father of two children.
Jenay Sherman is a marketing consultant and copywriter for businesses in various industries. After leaving her role as Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Fifth Third Bank, she decided to focus on branding, content and reputation of her own client organizations. Jenay also has taught communications, diversity, and leadership at the University if Dayton, Indiana University, Miami University, Collin College and Lovejoy High School. As an author, Jenay has won various awards for both creative and business writing and is currently a featured author for several print and online publications. She was selected for Texas Mother of the Year by Mothers, Inc. in 2017. As a parent and advocate of a child with special needs, she serves on the board of TUFF (The Unique Friends Foundation) who’s mission is to help individuals with special needs find meaningful employment and independence. She is also the Vice President of Programming for her local Parent Teacher Association. Jenay is a Christian, wife and mother to four young boys in McKinney, TX.
