With the increasing desire to enhance employee experience and deliver consumer grade services, HR functions must rethink capabilities and approaches. Learn from members of Asurion’s corporate HR Product Development team how they have organized, added new capabilities, and changed to a consumer centered product approach. Ben Merrill, VP of Human Resources, will share the journey and examples of HR initiatives that have been shaped by the shift to a product development mindset. Pierre Delinois, Senior Manager of HR Innovation, will share how his team has learned from company product teams how to leverage design thinking in developing and improving HR programs and services. Asurion is a leading global technology support company headquartered in Nashville with 18,000 employees and over 300 million customers across the globe.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the opportunities for Human Resources to organize and operate as a product organization, enhancing employee experiences through innovative programs and delivery.
  • Learn examples of how program management, innovation/design thinking, and analytics helps to create consumer grade experiences for employees.

Ben Merrill - Within the Human Resources function of Asurion, Ben is responsible for leading the global Compensation, Benefits, and HR Product Development teams. Asurion provides technology protection and support for nearly 300 million customers in 18 countries. Since joining the company in 2014, Ben has also led other HR teams including Talent & Organizational Effectiveness. Prior to joining Asurion, Ben spent 13 years at HCA Holdings, Inc., a Fortune 100 company and the largest for-profit healthcare provider in the world. At HCA, Ben worked in the Corporate Compensation area in various progressive roles before leading the function as the Vice President. Other prior experience includes managing compensation for Duke University and Health System as well as consulting various industries in human resources engagements for Hay Group/Korn Ferry and Willis Towers Watson. Ben has a MBA from Vanderbilt University and a BA in business-administration from Furman University. Ben is a certified Senior Professional of Human Resources and graduate of the Human Resource Leadership Academy.

Pierre Delinois  - In his role at Asurion, Pierre applies product management thinking to HR to make work more effective, engaging, and productive for Asurion’s current and prospective employees. He does this via analysis, research, and other human-centered design techniques. He has been with the company since 2011, and has also held roles in Technology, Recruiting, and Talent Analytics. Pierre has a M.Ed in Human Resource Development from Vanderbilt University and B.S. in Advertising from the University of Florida. When he’s not spending time with his wife and 3 kids, he is an avid fan of calisthenics training, classic cocktails, reading, and podcasting any range of random topics.
