Moving Beyond Training to a Strategic Career Development Approach

In this presentation, human resource practitioners will learn what is changing in the field of career development and why it is so important to focus on a holistic & personalized approach. This presentation will look at the role leaders must play to retain and engage their employees and the role employees must take truly own their careers now and in the future.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the current employment landscape and the unique dynamics created by having a multi-generational workforce 
  • Learn why traditional career development methods are losing in the war for talent
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of human resources, leaders and employee to be successful at career development

Registration: MTSU Faculty or Student: $5; Member Registration: $20 by end of business Wednesday March 13, $25 afterwards.

This program has been awarded 1.5 hours of General HR recertification credit. "MT|SHRM is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDC's) for the SHRM-CP and SHRM SCP. Biography: Melissa has over 25 years of experience in multiple human resources roles. For the past 12 years, Melissa worked at Asurion;  a leading provider of device protection and technical support and repair for cell phones and other electronics.  As a Talent & Organizational Effectiveness Director, Melissa focused on Talent Development initiatives that included career development, talent management, team effectiveness and individual & leadership development.  Additionally, Melissa has designed and facilitated learning programs both here in the US and globally.

Starting in January, Melissa has transitioned into consulting and started her own company, Beaconhill Training & Development, which will focus on leadership development, coaching, team effectiveness and increasing productivity and accountability for organizational and individuals. 

She is a certified coach completing her program with the University of Miami. She also has her Master’s degree in Organizations and Management from Antioch College.  She is a native of New Hampshire and has lived here in Tennessee for the last 13 years.
