HR’s Role in an Active Shooter Scenario

Workplace violence, including an active shooter, is becoming increasingly more common. Having a plan and knowing how to implement it quickly is one of the best ways to increase the chance of keeping your employees safe in an active shooter event. During this event, attendees will learn practical ways HR departments can assist in prevention, response and recovery from an active shooter situation in today’s workplace.

Discussing the role of HR leading up to, actions during and ways to cope afterwards. This course is designed to provide a framework for large scale corporations to design and implement a standard operating procedure that HR uses.

Learning objectives include:

1) How to identify issues within the workforce
2) How to maintain accountability of the workforce during an incident
3) How to providing counseling and maintaining contact with your employees after the incident

Schedule: Registration and Networking open at 4:30 pm; Presentation 5:00-7:00 pm.

Parking information/directions:
Free parking is available in the parking lot directly across from Waggoner Library which is located at the intersection of Lester Avenue and Woodard Street.  Quick Lecture Hall is located on the ground floor. 

Biography: Mr. Whitaker has been working in the security field for over 27 years from the ground level all the way to managing national programs directly related to securing critical infrastructure in the United States. He spent 13 years in the United States Army as a reconnaissance and intelligence specialist with the last 3 years spent planning and organizing the reconnaissance and security plan for a 250 man military unit. After the events of September 11th, Mr. Whitaker was recruited into the Department of Homeland Security as a counter-terrorism Special Agent and supervisor. He was assigned to the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Security Assessments, charged with conducting in-depth risk and vulnerability assessments for all critical infrastructure in the United States. Mr. Whitaker also served as the Assistant Federal Security Director for Law Enforcement for the West Coast of the United States while also serving as the Reginal Federal Incident Response Commander for the Department of Homeland Security. He is federally certified in vulnerability assessments and is a certified protection professional from the American Society for Industrial Security. In 2013 he founded Advanced Security Services Evaluation & Training (ASSET) where he now serves as President.
