The New EEOC Guidance and Using Training as a Defense
Presented by M. Levy Leatherman, Attorney, Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC

In this session, we will discuss the EEOC's new guidance on training, its recommendations to employers, and its insight as to what constitutes adequate or effective training. We will also discuss the use of employment law training in establishing an affirmative defense to harassment claims and review recent cases in which training played a key role in the establishment of the affirmative defense. 

Attendees will learn about proactive measures their organizations can take to implement compliant and effective training programs to prevent and address harassment in the workplace.

Schedule: Doors open at 7:15 am for registration and networking. Buffet breakfast begins at 7:20 am, and the presentation starts promptly at 8:00 am.

Biography: M. Levy Leatherman is a labor and employment attorney in the Nashville office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC. Mr. Leatherman's labor and employment practice is focused on one result – ensuring a productive and amicable workplace for employers through proactive steps for litigation avoidance and by aggressively defending litigation when it does arise. He routinely counsels clients on issues of compliance with state and federal laws through every phase of employment. These issues may include a complete overhaul of employment policies and procedures, the introduction of employment or non-compete agreements, harassment or workplace conduct training and assistance with employee separation. However, if and when litigation arises, he stands ready to aggressively represent his clients in resolving these matters. He is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Louisiana and he has litigated matters throughout the country.
