An introduction to Dick Grote’s philosophy on employee discipline, including highlights from his book, “Discipline without Punishment.”

Learning objectives include:

  • What is “Progressive Discipline” and what is the purpose?
  • Examine alternative, meaningful way to discipline employees

Biography: Meredith Jones, a seasoned business professional and human resources executive, provides over eighteen years of knowledge, expertise and leadership as Sera Business Advisors’ Founder and Managing Partner.  Her practical experience and acumen allow her observations and recommendations to be realistic and practical, targeting ways human resources can effectively contribute to employers’ strategic business goals.

An accountant by degree, Meredith has a unique skill set that blends people knowledge with business savvy.  During the early stages of her career, Meredith transitioned out of accounting and worked as a Senior Human Resources Business Partner with a big four professional services firm, a Fortune 500 company and a new venture start-up.  In 2009, Meredith took a unique opportunity and began building a successful HR consulting practice inside an insurance brokerage firm.  Her high-touch approach and ability to understand and define employer needs, allowed Meredith to grow the practice to a substantial size.  In 2014, she successfully spun the practice out into an independent consultancy, Sera Business Advisors.

Under Meredith’s leadership, Sera Business Advisors provide recommendations and strategies tailored to each client’s unique environment and business needs. Sera supports companies of all sizes across a variety of industries from start-ups and small business to middle-market and publicly traded organizations. 

Meredith holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certifications and is a certified DiSC Facilitator. Meredith is a professional member in the National and Middle Tennessee chapters of the Society of Human Resource Management. Meredith also serves as Chairman of her church’s Personnel Committee.  She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Accountancy from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She and her husband, Andy, live in Brentwood and have two children they adore.
