Member Types and Dues Rates

Member Types include the following:

Professional Membership: This category is for individuals whose employment and primary career interest are in the field of human resources or a related discipline. This membership type is right for you if you meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Primary job function is in HR or a related discipline such as; benefits, compensation, training, development, talent acquisition, recruiting, staffing, payroll, HRIS, etc.
  • Attorneys practicing in Employment or Labor Law
  • Those holding a certification in HR or a related discipline
  • Faculty members in higher education teaching courses in HR or any of its areas of specialization
  • College graduates with a degree in HR or a related discipline

Affiliate Membership: This category is for all other individuals who do not meet the criteria for Professional Membership. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Insurance brokers, benefits representatives, financial advisors, HR product and/or service providers, business development and marketing professionals, etc.

Both Professional and Affiliate members have the right to vote, serve on committees and hold elected office in the Chapter.

Student Members: Student membership is a benefit available to members of locally chartered SHRM Student Chapters. Student membership is also open to individuals recognized by SHRM as At-Large Student Members and who are actively enrolled in a Human Resources related degree program at an accredited college or university. Student members’ chapter dues are waived so long as they meet the current requirements of their college chapter and/or are active as At-Large Student members with National SHRM.   Student members are extended all courtesies of the Chapter except the right to vote, act as vice-chair of a committee or hold office.

Small Business Owner Program: for those who do not have a full-time human resources professional on staff, but still have HR responsibilities and need expert information. 2017 Annual Member Dues

  • Professional or Affiliate Membership - $129. Current members of the National SHRM organization who choose to designate MT|SHRM (chapter 0083) as their primary chapter, dues are only $119 annually. Membership to SHRM National is separate from membership in the Local chapter, and is not included in the Local chapter dues.
  • Small Business Owner’s Membership - $294. For owners of business without a full-time HR professional on staff.  Includes membership in both local and national SHRM..
  • Student Membership - $20. Student members must meet one of the two following requirements in order to qualify for a Student membership with MT|SHRM. 1) Be a current Student Member of national SHRM, or 2) Be a Student Member of one our affiliate student chapters. Click here for a list of MT|SHRM Student Chapters in Middle Tennessee.
  • Student members who convert their Student Membership to a Professional Membership within 6 months of graduation are eligible to receive a discounted rate of $64 for their first year's membership.

Corporate Discount Program:

For organizations with 5 or more Professional or Affiliate members, the following discounts apply:

Naturally, some terms and conditions apply: (the unavoidable fine print)

  • Membership is granted to, and stays with, the individual. There is no refund or transfer of membership if a member leaves the employer’s organization. However, a replacement can be added for the balance of the organization’s membership year.
  • For discounts to apply, membership dues must be paid annually by the organization in a single payment.
